Erik is a partner with KPMG in Hong Kong and has been working with KPMG and in the Financial Services industry for more than 30 years, working with both audit and advisory clients throughout his career. He is a Dutch national that worked in the Dutch firm, and after an international experience with KPMG in Brazil is now working and living in Hong Kong.
Erik is KPMG China’s and Asia Pacific Head of Insurance and Lead partner for Insurance Accounting Change.
Career history
- Starting with KPMG in 1989, Erik worked in KPMG Netherland’s financial services audit practice, where he qualified as a Dutch Chartered Accountant. During his tenure with KPMG in the Netherlands he has worked with a broad range of financial services clients in the Banking, Investment Management and Insurance industries. Over time he has become more and more focused on servicing the insurance industry.
- From September 2012 - November 2014 Erik worked in KPMG Brazil’s insurance practice in Sao Paulo. During that period he worked as auditor and advisor with global insurance clients of KPMG in Brazil and the wider Latin American region and he was a member of KPMG´s Global Insurance Leadership Team representing Latin America.
- From January 2015 to December 2016 he worked in KPMG Hong Kong’s insurance team, also combining an audit and advisory role, and amongst other things he led our Asian activities in respect of Insurance Accounting Change and was part of the KPMG China insurance leadership team. He also was a member of KPMG’s Global Technical Topic Team for insurance accounting. In that period Erik also looked after the Asia Pacific relationship between MetLife and KPMG.
- Back in the Netherlands from 1 January 2017, Erik was the Dutch lead partner for ‘Insurance Accounting Change’, and continued to be a member of KPMGs global leadership on this topic. In that capacity he has been one of the developers of KPMG’s global tooling to help our clients’ transition through the change and drove the international eLearnings that KPMG produced.
- Starting 1 September 2017 Erik has returned to KPMG in Hong Kong to lead one of the largest IFRS 17 conversion projects for KPMG in Asia Pacific, whilst continuing in his international roles.
- Effective 1 October 2019 and 1 January 2020 respectively Erik was appointed Head of Insurance for KPMG China and Head of Insurance for Asia Pacific.
