Matthew Belcher is a partner in KPMG LLP’s National Private Equity Group based in New York. He is the Global Lead Partner for one of KPMG’s largest private equity clients, where he leads a team of professionals from Tax, Audit, and Advisory who are based in KPMG offices across the globe. Matthew is the single point of contact for all services delivered to his private equity clients (e.g., cyber security, regulatory, and valuation services) and is responsible for all independence matters relating to such clients. Matthew was previously KPMG’s U.S. Private Equity Tax Leader and a Principal within KPMG’s Mergers and Acquisitions practice where he specialized in partnership taxation, with an emphasis in the use of partnerships in mergers and acquisitions and corporate financing and restructurings. Prior to joining KPMG LLP, Matthew was a member of Deloitte Tax LLP’s Washington National Tax office. He received his B.A. with honors from Albion College, his J.D. with honors from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and his LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. Matthew has authored and co-authored articles that have appeared in a number of publications, including the Practising Law Institute, the USC Law School Annual Institute on Federal Taxation, BNA Tax Management, the Journal of Passthrough Entities, and the ABA Tax Quarterly.
Matthew is admitted to practice in Michigan and is a member of the Michigan State Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and their respective Tax Sections. Matthew is a frequent speaker on tax and accounting matters and has lectured at many conferences, including the Merrill Lynch CFO Conference, the American Bar Association, Tax Executive Institute, IIR’s Venture Capital & Private Equity Tax Practices Seminar, the USC Law School Annual Institute on Federal Taxation, and the New York University Summer Institute in Taxation. Matthew is also an Adjunct Professor at Villanova Law School.
