Kate Abdoo
Senior Managing Director - Washington National Tax
Kate is a Senior Managing Director in the KPMG Washington National Tax office, where she serves as a trusted advisor to large and mid-sized businesses on complex federal income tax matters. Her practice spans a broad spectrum of technical areas, including revenue and expense recognition, capitalization and cost recovery, lease and long-term contract accounting, accounting methods and periods, and strategic planning under international tax provisions such as BEAT, FDII, and GILTI.
Prior to joining KPMG, Kate held a senior role as Special Counsel to the Associate Chief Counsel (Income Tax & Accounting) in the IRS Office of Chief Counsel. In that capacity, she provided legal guidance on high-stakes taxpayer matters, contributed to the development of regulatory and sub-regulatory guidance, and played a key role in shaping priority guidance projects. Her work included significant contributions to regulations under IRC sections 451 (revenue recognition), 274 (deductibility of meals, entertainment, and commuting), and 905 (foreign tax credits).
Kate’s earlier experience includes national tax roles at other Big4 firms, where she co-led their Washington National Tax accounting methods group. She also served as in-house tax counsel at General Electric Company, where she supported the preparation of GE’s consolidated federal income tax return, advised GE business units on various federal income tax issues and oversaw accounting method change requests, and supported the tax controversy team in defending complex accounting method positions.
In addition to her client-facing work, Kate has contributed to the academic community as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, where she taught Income Tax Accounting to JD and LL.M. students. Kate is licensed to practice law in New York and is actively involved in the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation, currently serving as Vice Chair of the Tax Accounting Committee.
Kate earned her J.D. from Pace University School of Law and her LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center.
