Climate Week NYC is the largest annual climate event of its kind, bringing together over 600 events and activities across the City of New York – in person, hybrid and online. Each year, business leaders, political change makers, local decision takers and civil society representatives of all ages and backgrounds, from all over the world, gather to drive the transition, speed up progress, and champion change that is already happening.
Climate Week NYC is hosted by Climate Group, an international non-profit whose purpose is to drive climate action, fast. Climate Group hosts the official program during the week that brings together the most senior international figures from business, government, civil society and the climate sector. This year, Climate Week NYC is being held from September 22-29, 2024. The event takes place every year in partnership with the United Nations General Assembly and is run in coordination with the United Nations and the City of New York.

Driving the Energy and Transport Transition:
Time to triple – what will hold back the renewables vow?
Sept 23 11:00am – 12:00 pm
At COP28, 124 countries committed to tripling globally installed renewable capacity by 2030. Policy barriers stop to many of them from fully capitalising on their renewable resources. These barriers will hinder their international commitments, and net zero goals. This session will look at the gap between the right policies and realities on the ground. How will the pledge to triple renewables go from a pledge to reality.
Key questions to be addressed will include the following, including through audience Q&A:
The bulk of the global demand for energy will continue to be met from fossil fuels until renewables are scaled sufficiently. We are wasting our time talking about phasing out fossil fuels until the replacement solution (i.e., renewables) is fully scaled and available. This is why the global ambition of tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030 is so important. I unequivocally welcome this ambition and believe it to be one of the most important commitments on the global climate agenda

The Path to Net Zero Buildings Achieving Net Zero Buildings typically focuses on operational energy consumption. But is a building really net zero if the embodied carbon remains unaccounted for? What does it look like to achieve true net zero over a building’s lifetime?
KPMG's Pravin Chandran, Sustainability Data & Technology Leader, will lead the Data & AI panel:
Transforming Buildings to Accelerate the Climate Action Buildings are becoming smarter. Leveraging data and artificial intelligence can significantly accelerate energy savings, reduce emissions, and increase the use of clean energy.
