United States further modifies Canadian products subject to 50% tariffs
Product additions and removals are effective October 30, 2026.
President Trump today issued a proclamation further modifying the scope of Canadian products subject to additional 50% ad valorem duties under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930.
The proclamation removes certain Canadian products from the additional duties and adds other products, effective for goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after October 30, 2026. The duties apply in addition to duties imposed under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.
According to a White House fact sheet, products being removed include plywood sheets, some paper products, certain machinery and refrigeration equipment, and certain packing crates and boxes. Products being added include certain valves, carpets, waste products, and others. The White House release also states that the Section 338 tariffs apply to covered goods regardless of whether they originate under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
