Hungary: Special windfall tax on petroleum product producers revised and extended
The special windfall tax is extended through the 2027 tax year.
The government of Hungary adopted Act XXXII of 2026 (on July 18, 2026) revising the special windfall tax on petroleum product producers and extending its application through the 2027 tax year.
The Act introduces a 50% tax on the portion of the monthly Brent-Russian crude price difference exceeding US$2 but not exceeding US$5 per barrel, while retaining the 95% rate on the portion exceeding US$5.
The revised rules became effective on August 18, 2026, and first apply to the August 2026 monthly tax liability.
