Czech Republic: Proposed extraordinary tax on refineries; draft amendments to rules on tax depreciation and leasing
Proposals must still proceed through legislative process.
The KPMG member firm in the Czech Republic prepared reports on a proposed extraordinary tax on refineries and proposed amendments to the rules on depreciation and leasing:
- The government approved proposed legislation subjecting taxpayers operating in the refinery sector and meeting the statutory conditions to an extraordinary tax of 50% in 2026 and 2027, levied on the increase in gross refining margins compared to 2025. However, according to information from the Ministry of Finance, only one entity is likely to meet the statutory conditions. The bill will proceed through the standard legislative process, including debate in the Chamber of Deputies. Read an October 2026 report
- In response to changes in accounting legislation, the government has drafted legislation for consultation amending the rules on tangible fixed assets and tax depreciation, finance leases and other leases, and tax provisions and impairment allowances. The draft legislation may change significantly during the remainder of the legislative process and is therefore unlikely to take effect before 2030. Read an October 2026 report
