The government in August 2026 issued Decree 973, which introduces the country’s regulatory framework for carbon markets and carbon pricing instruments.

The decree establishes new rules for the generation, certification, registration, and utilization of emission reductions, and also recognizes the national carbon tax and its offset mechanism.
