Switzerland: Transition to Model 1 FATCA IGA delayed until 2028

Transition to a Model FATCA IGA with the United States has been postponed by one year

The State Secretariat for International Finance (SIF) of Switzerland on January 26, 2026, announced that Switzerland’s transition from a Model 2 to a Model 1 Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the United States has been postponed by one year, with the earliest entry into force now scheduled for January 1, 2028.

Swiss financial institutions will continue to operate under the Model 2 FATCA rules until the Model 1 IGA becomes effective.
