Analytics featured in live broadcast television coverage of LPGA Tour
New York, March 29, 2024 – KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax, and advisory firm, today announced it is enhancing its KPMG Performance Insights platform utilized by the LPGA Tour with cutting-edge, AI-powered technology, enabling real-time predictive insights. The solution was launched on Golf Channel this past weekend during the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship and will continue to be implemented at the Ford Championship presented by KCC this week and across all LPGA Tour events going forward.
This groundbreaking platform offers next-generation predictive insights for each tournament, including win probability, final top 5/10/20 athletes, projected cut line, winning score and other scores – never before available in women’s professional golf. KPMG Performance Insights also projects the probability of U.S. players automatically qualifying for the Solheim Cup, building excitement toward this tentpole event on the LPGA Tour.
These insights will be provided for live broadcast TV coverage for all LPGA Tour tournaments, which will enhance the experience of both the viewers and fans following the competition via social media.
"Our partnership with the LPGA Tour represents our ongoing dedication to advancing women's golf across every dimension, including cutting-edge technology," said Laura Newinski, KPMG Deputy Chair and COO. “These AI-powered enhancements to our KPMG Performance Insights platform will greatly enhance the live broadcast coverage of LPGA tournaments and add a layer of excitement for those following the action on both TV and social media.”
These insights are derived from a robust set of data inputs. KPMG Performance Insights' AI-powered models assess players' actual performance levels and variations in their performance. Additionally, the platform conducts approximately 20,000 live simulations of the remainder of each event while in play, drawing on historic scoring-level data from various golf associations (LPGA, LET, ALPG, JLPGA, KLPGA) – dating back to 1992 for the LPGA. Live hole-by-hole scoring data during events further enhances the platform's predictive capabilities.
"These insights from KPMG will provide invaluable tools for our broadcast partners, content producers, and the media outlets who cover the Tour and our athletes, enriching storytelling opportunities around each tournament,” said LPGA Chief Marketing, Brand and Communications Officer Matt Chmura. “By offering fans deeper, more insightful information and predictive analysis, we’re able to enhance their viewing experience, engagement with the sport and appreciation for the world-class talent of our athletes."
The platform employs a 'machine learning' methodology to weigh each factor, continually refining its predictive capabilities based on historical results and evolving performance trends.
KPMG's commitment to the advancement, development and empowerment of women is further exemplified through the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit, KPMG Future Leaders Program and the firm’s sponsorship of several LPGA Tour athletes.
