Mike McMahon

Mike specializes in real estate matters, including partnerships, REITs, and QOFs.  Prior to joining KPMG, Mr. McMahon was an Executive Vice President and Director of Tax at RXR. Mike joined RXR’s predecessor, Reckson Associates Realty Corp, in June 1997 as a Vice President, with the responsibility of starting and organizing the tax department. In 2005, Mike also took on the role of asset manager for RXR's suburban office portfolio, a role he held for about 10 years while still managing the tax department. Mike was a member of the Real Estate Roundtable’s Tax Policy and Advisory Committee where he served as part of the Roundtable’s Opportunity Zone Working Group, reviewing related legislation and providing comments to the Treasury Department. As a subject-matter expert in OZs, Mike helped RXR raise nearly $1 billion of equity for two multi-asset QOFs. 

Mike is a licensed CPA in New York State. He graduated from the College of Staten Island/CUNY with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and earned his MBA in Taxation from Bernard Baruch College/CUNY.

Professional and industry experience:

• Expert in REIT, QOF and real estate partnership tax matters, including inbound structuring of investors into real estate funds and JVs. 
• Created and operated the tax department at Reckson/RXR for over 26 years, dealing with tax issues involving both public and private REITs, partnership taxation, and the structuring of inbound investors into real estate funds and JVs. 
• Extensive experience dealing with the inner workings of an internal tax department.
• Expert knowledge of qualified opportunity zone rules and regulations, helping RXR raise nearly $1 billion of OZ equity in two multi-asset QOFs. 
• Managed a portfolio of suburban office assets for 10 years.
