Michael Mattaliano

Michael is a Senior Manager who joined KPMG in January 2024. He brings nine years of experience in public accounting, specializing in information reporting and withholding matters (including Forms 1099, 1042-S, W-2G, 871(m), Qualified Intermediary (QI) regimes, and Qualified Derivatives Dealer (QDD) regimes). Michael also spent two years at E*TRADE Financial Corporation, focusing on the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and providing guidance on Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Chapters 3, 4, and 61. His expertise extends to Cost Basis Adjustments, Federal and State Tax Controversy, and QI reporting.
Michael has represented clients before the IRS, federal courts, and state tax authorities in New Jersey and New York, handling all aspects of tax controversy from audit through trial. He has also advised clients on mergers and acquisitions.
  
Professional Experience    

• Since joining KPMG, Michael has led and managed a team of professionals delivering tax advisory services to global financial institutions and gaming companies, with a focus on U.S. information reporting and withholding. He specialises in regulatory interpretation and compliance regarding information reporting and withholding requirements.
• He serves as the product owner of the IRW eDelivery Tool, which securely distributes tax forms electronically to global financial institutions and multinational companies. Additionally, he has reviewed and responded to ad-hoc questions about interpretive guidance on information reporting and withholding regulations.
  
• Michael is responsible for reviewing policy and implementing Section 871(m) and Qualified Derivatives Dealer (QDD) guidance at a global financial institution. He advises on the interpretation and application of Section 871(m) regulations and the QDD regime.
