Robert Malhotra

Robert B. (Bob) Malhotra is currently the Audit Partner In-Charge of KPMG’s Northeast Financial Services Practice. Bob is based in New York with nearly 30 years of experience serving clients primarily in the financial services sector. He was previously the Chief Accountant in the Department of Professional Practice (DPP) at KPMG and also served as the Chief Accountant of DPP Americas, which supports KPMG member firms in Central and South America. As a senior partner in the KPMG financial services practice, Bob has served many of the largest financial services audit clients of KPMG. Bob also previously served two separate terms as a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board’s Emerging Issues Task Force and is currently a member of KPMG LLP Board of Directors’ Nominating Committee.
Prior to rejoining KPMG in 2014, Bob was the Global Head of Financial Reporting and Accounting Policy at a large insurance company. Earlier in his career Bob served as a Professional Accounting Fellow and then was appointed the Senior Advisor to the Chief Accountant at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. While at the SEC, Bob advised the SEC’s Chief Accountant and Commissioners on complex accounting and reporting matters; co-chaired the President’s Working Group’s Regulatory Reform Subcommittee for Accounting and Valuation Issues; acted as liaison between the Office of the Chief Accountant and staff of the House Financial Services and Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committees; and served as the team leader for the SEC’s Office of the Chief Accountant’s business combinations team responsible for responding to financial reporting issues arising from mergers and acquisition related activity.
Bob earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting and finance from the University of Cincinnati. He is a Certified Public Accountant in New York and Ohio and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Bob serves on the board of the KPMG Asian Pacific Islander Business Resource Group.
