Stephen is the Audit Sector Leader for Banking and Capital Markets with extensive US and global experience serving the sector. He is a recognized authority in delivering large, complex global audits and has experience in all facets of regulated global financial services, including consumer, commercial, investment banking, and wealth management businesses. A strategic and innovative thinker, he is regarded as a thought leader on current financial services issues and leading practices, with a strong track record in delivering clear and concise communications on business, accounting, auditing, regulatory and industry issues. He has worked with clients on M&A, dispositions, spin-off IPOs, restructurings, risk and regulatory matters, and clients undergoing IT, centralization and outsourcing transformations. He has also addressed technical accounting issues such as revenue recognition, credit risk, CECL, financial instruments, discontinued operations, litigation, SEC reporting and disclosure matters. Over his career at KPMG, Stephen has served as Lead Audit Engagement Partner or SEC Reviewing Partner for a variety of clients, both public and private in the US and internationally.
As the Audit Sector Leader of the Banking & Capital Markets leadership team at KPMG, he is responsible for developing and executing the strategic vision for the U.S. Banking & Capital Markets Audit Practice through a rapidly changing environment. In this role, he is responsible for driving KPMG's strategy to build and deepen client relationships, unlock value in our pursuits, and leverage our leading technological capabilities and our people's industry experience to deliver deeper insights and quality audits for our clients. He also works with our teams and companies to help navigate emerging risks and build resilience in this time of transformative change.
