Kirstin Gallagher

Kirstin Gallagher is a Principal in KPMG’s International Tax group, specializing in the asset management industry. She also serves as the US Tax leader for Sovereign Wealth & Pension Funds. With over 20 years of experience, Kirstin has an extensive background in tax structuring, including experience in mergers and acquisitions, fund structuring, and guidelines to manage permanent establishment risk. Kirstin advises US and global funds and investors, including sovereign wealth and foreign pension funds, on the US and global tax aspects of business operations, investment activities, and structures, ensuring commercial results without compromising clients’ risk tolerance and reputational considerations. Her expertise spans across various asset classes and geographies. Kirstin’s experience includes managing teams responsible for tax compliance, transfer pricing, and audits.

Professional and industry experience

Kirstin rejoined KPMG in 2024 after serving as Tax Lead for the Americas at GIC, where she led a team evaluating global public and private markets equity and credit investments. At GIC, she spearheaded the tax strategy for complex private equity, venture, and credit fund investments. She also oversaw Americas tax compliance.

Previously, as Managing Director in Deal Advisory, M&A Tax at KPMG, Kirstin structured intricate cross-border and domestic transactions and developed global tax-related policies for clients. Kirstin began her career as a tax associate at a top global law firm. In these roles, Kirstin represented inbound, outbound, and US domestic clients on mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, debt refinancings, investment fund structuring, out-from-under planning, and related issues.
