Doug Besch

Doug Besch is KPMG’s Chief Auditor and an audit partner in the firm’s Department of Professional Practice. He is responsible for the firm’s audit and attest methodology under PCAOB and AICPA standards, as well as certain matters related to Securities and Exchange Commission requirements. Doug also oversees the development and approval of KPMG’s methodology for the use of AI in financial reporting, bringing an audit quality and regulatory perspective to this rapidly evolving area. He draws on more than 30 years of public accounting experience serving public and private companies.

Doug’s experience spans financial statement audits and audits of internal control, with a particular concentration in the chemicals, industrial products and consumer products industries. His technical knowledge includes internal control over financial reporting, COSO, revenue recognition, impairment, restructuring, income taxes and SEC reporting requirements.

Doug previously completed a professional accounting fellowship in the SEC’s Office of the Chief Accountant, where he advised on rulemaking and other proposals under the federal securities laws related to financial reporting, including actions of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. He also serves as one of KPMG’s SEC Reviewing Partners.

Doug is a KPMG national instructor and a frequent speaker on auditing, accounting, financial reporting and regulatory matters. He earned a BSBA in accounting from Shippensburg University and is a licensed CPA in New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas.
