National housing needs
Rental housing costs have risen across the country and the development of new housing supply has not kept pace with demand. As a result, an increasing population, at a range of income levels, is at risk of housing insecurity.1 To address this issue, state and local government agencies must:
- Continue to look for ways to streamline operations within homelessness services and housing agencies
- Continue to prioritize the creation of reliable pathways and improvements to existing ones for streamlining housing development processes (e.g., permitting, environmental)
- Expand funding for affordable and workforce housing development
- Promote innovative project delivery structures and partnerships with other government entities, nonprofits, and corporate partners to accelerate housing delivery
- Modernize aging technology and systems of record, with the goal of improving the overall tenant experience
- Improve engagement with residents and tenants to address issues with confidence with public housing
