The 2022 edition of Asian representation on Fortune 1000 boards examines the state of Asian representation on Fortune 1000 boards during 2021 and 2022. The KPMG BLC collaborated with Ascend Pinnacle to identify and analyze trends in gender, age, board service, committee service, and tenure among Asian directors, as well as the prevalence of Asian directors by industry and state of corporate headquarters. Data on public Fortune 1000 company boards and directors were provided by Equilar.

Among the key findings:

  • There has been negligible improvement in Asian representation on boards since our first report was published in 2020. Two-thirds of companies in our study still do not have an Asian director on the board.
  • Asian directors are most highly represented in the technology sector: 10 percent of the directors serving on boards in this industry are Asian. Over half of technology companies have at least one Asian director.
  • Asian directors are more likely to be younger and female compared to the entire population of Fortune 1000 directors. A plurality of Asian directors are in their 50s, in comparison to a plurality of the overall director population who are in their 60s. Nearly 40 percent of Asian directors are female, compared to just under 30 percent of all Fortune 1000 directors.
