Kevin Valek
Partner, Tax Asset Management
Kevin is National Leader, Asset Management - Tax with over 34 years’ experience providing tax advisory services for alternative investment fund clients including distressed debt, private equity funds, hedge funds, venture capital and fund of funds as well as SEC registered investment products. He is also the Tax Business Unit Partner in Charge of the Southwest, which includes Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Previously, he was National Segment Leader for Private Equity Funds and led the M&A Tax Practice in the Dallas office. Prior to joining KPMG in 2002, Kevin was a Principal with Arthur Andersen and a member of their Transaction Advisory Services group.
Professional and industry experience
Kevin has worked extensively on the formation and operation of private equity funds, investment fund structuring, distressed debt acquisitions and loan market discount, and portfolio company acquisitions, restructurings, dispositions and recapitalizations.
Kevin serves as Global Lead Tax Partner on some of the Firm’s largest fund clients, providing tax consulting and compliance services to their funds, general partner entities and management companies. As Global Lead Tax Partner, Kevin oversees all Tax services provided by KPMG around the world to the various offices and affiliates of these funds.
Kevin is a frequent instructor for the firm’s internal training courses including “Tax Issues in Alternative Investment Funds” and “Alternative Investment Funds Tax Immersion Course” as well as a frequent speaker at external asset management conferences and events.
