Fall brings new hope for consumers' wallets

KPMG’s yearly back-to-school survey is here! Over 1,000 consumers across the U.S. were surveyed to hear their plans for BTS shopping, as well as their sentiments around inflation, overall spend, and online shopping habits. This year’s survey gives key insights into what we can expect for fall.

Inflation drives higher spending

A large number of consumers plan to spend more on BTS this year—driven primarily by higher prices. 

Share of wallet by category and channel

Core supplies, apparel, and footwear account for 54% of spend—similar to last year.

Compared to summer, consumers plan to increase spending this fall
