Botswana: Tax proposals in 2025/2026 budget

The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development today presented the 2025/2026 budget proposals to the National Assembly. Highlights of the tax-related proposals include:

  • 1.5% increase in both company tax rates (from 22% to 23.5%) and the marginal tax rate for individuals (from 25% to 26.5%)
  • Ongoing reviews of tax legislation, with plans to introduce a new Tax Administration Act
  • Revised income tax and value added tax (VAT) laws
  • Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) projects introducing VAT on digital transactions, implementing electronic invoicing for VAT collection, and a "track and trace" solution for excisable goods
