Brazil: Updated layout for VAT and excise tax returns
The updated layout includes changes to validation rules, the addition of new fields, and updates to the mandatory status of certain existing fields.
The Brazilian Tax Authorities on November 5, 2024, released an updated layout for the value added tax (ICMS) and excise tax (IPI) monthly returns. The updated layout includes changes to validation rules, the addition of new fields, and updates to the mandatory status of certain existing fields.
Key changes are related to the following sections of the returns:
- C700–electronic invoices (e-invoices) related to electricity
- D700 & D750–e-invoices for telecommunications services
- D100 & D130–e-invoices for transportation services (CT-e)
- E113–validation of the transaction party reported for ICMS adjustments
The Brazilian digital reporting files (SPED) are expected to be modified to include new sections and/or fields to adapt to the changes introduced by the updated layout. However, as of today, the tax authorities have not released or suggested a possible release date for these updates to the existing layouts. Earlier this year, they released updates to the e-invoice layout to provide taxpayers with ample time to adjust their systems to the new requirements.
