Germany: Draft of regulation on awarding of tax-related business number; other VAT developments

The Federal Ministry of Finance published the policy draft of a regulation on the awarding of a tax-related business number.

July 31, 2024

The Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) on June 28, 2024, published the policy draft of a regulation on the awarding of a tax-related business number (W-IdNr).

The draft regulation focuses on the structure and assignment of the W-IdNR, which in the future will be stored in the register of basic company data and serve to identify companies uniquely and across registers.

The Federal Cabinet is expected to approve the draft regulation soon, and the Federal Council is expected to do so on September 27, 2024.

The initial allocation of the W-IdNr. is expected to begin on November 1, 2024.
