Treasury is responsible for administering refunds, reduced tax rates, and tax credits on imported alcohol
The U.S. Treasury Department and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on March 6, 2024, published in the Federal Register a final rule [PDF 224 KB] that moves responsibility for administering refunds, reduced tax rates, and tax credits on imported alcohol from CBP to Treasury on January 1, 2023.
The final rule adopts, with no changes, interim amendments [PDF 235 KB] to the CBP regulations that were published in the Federal Register on December 30, 2022 (CBP Decision 22–26).
The rule is effective March 6, 2024.
