Liezl is a Principal in KPMG’s New York State and Local Tax practice. Liezl advises on a variety of state and local tax matters for multinational companies in diverse industries including media, entertainment, retail, manufacturing, automotive, technology, cloud computing (SaaS), pharmaceuticals, financial, and asset management.
Liezl’s practice specializes in state and local income/franchise tax where she advises clients on effective tax rate reduction planning, multi-state controversy and audit management, tax compliance (including RARs), and audit/attestation (ASC 740, ASC 450). Liezl has also assists companies in rectifying historical tax exposures by entering in tax amnesty programs and negotiating voluntary disclosure agreements.
Liezl also serves as a state and local tax transaction advisor to corporate strategic buyers/sellers and asset management/private equity firms throughout the lifecycle of a transaction whether that is a merger, acquisition, divestiture or restructure. As part of the M&A lifecycle, she advises on state and local sell-side tax planning, acquisition structuring, transfer tax analysis, sell-side and buy-side direct/indirect state and local tax and unclaimed property due diligence, and post-transaction integration. Additionally, she assists newly acquired or reorganized companies in evaluating their state and local tax operations and practices to identify tax cost savings opportunities.
