Dátus is a managing director in KPMG’s national State and Local Tax (SALT) practice and leads the practice in identifying and developing strategic planning and consulting opportunities for asset management clients. Dátus was one of the first within the firm to focus on state and local tax matters for asset managers, working in both our New York and Chicago offices. Dátus’ ability to holistically analyze an organization’s business, structure, and ownership enables him to help clients take a long-term strategic focus on their state and local taxes by seeking alpha and managing beta.
Professional and Industry Experience
- Dátus has worked with clients in a variety of industries, but focuses primarily on asset managers in real estate, credit, and trading. Examples include management companies, public and private REITs, funds, banks and financial institutions, private credit, broker-dealers, hedge, and other alternative investments.
- He serves as a member of KPMG’s State Tax Resource Network where he is responsible for monitoring and reporting state tax developments for asset management. As the Asset Management National Strategic Services SALT leader, Datus is a dedicated national resource that works with local engagement teams and their clients to optimize SALT value-add and risk.
- During his tenure, he has consulted on over $50B of transaction value, including management company sales and restructuring, blockbuster real estate transactions, PE mergers/acquisitions, and private credit solutions.
