Stephen A. Metz
State and Local Tax Senior Manager
Steve is a State and Local Tax Senior Manager in the KPMG Denver office. He is a Colorado native who joined KPMG in 1999 after working for a law firm that assisted developers in creating and maintaining special taxing districts. Steve also acted as an associate to the City Attorney for Lone Tree, Colorado, and as a law clerk to the Honorable Judge Simons in Colorado State District Court.
Steve has contributed his indirect tax and property tax experience to many multistate consulting and compliance projects and because sales and use tax impacts every entity and industry, he has worked on a wide variety of issues for entities of all sizes. His areas of focus include sales/use and property tax refunds, audit defense, planning, working with organizations to obtain grants, determine enterprise zone credits, and secure incentives from state and local authorities. He has experience working with companies in industries such as technology, telecommunications, airlines, utilities, high tech, biotechnology, healthcare, manufacturing, oil and gas, timber, and a variety of others.
Steve speaks frequently for professional associations such as the National Business Institute, COST, TEI, Lorman, and the Texas Society of CPAs, as well as KPMG programs such as KPMG TaxWatch. He has a JD degree from the University of Denver and a BS degree in International Business from the University of Colorado.
