Julie M. Marion
Principal, Passthroughs, Washington National Tax
Julie Marion advises on federal partnership taxation, structuring and transactional matters. Julie also supports the Tax Incentivized Transactions, Leasing and Energy group, advising on tax credit partnerships and other tax incentivized structures.
Prior to joining KPMG in 2019, Julie was a tax partner at Latham & Watkins LLP, where she practiced for 18 years. At her prior firm, Julie advised on federal tax aspects of complex partnership transactions, including joint venture investments, business acquisitions and related financing matters, with an emphasis on the energy/power and real estate sectors. She routinely represented publicly and privately owned companies, investment funds and financial institutions in a wide range of transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt recapitalizations, and insolvency restructurings.
Julie has extensive experience in the renewable energy sector. She has advised on the acquisition, development, financing, and disposition of over 9,000 MW of renewable energy projects, including public and private “yieldco” planning, mergers and acquisitions, and other structuring considerations. She regularly advises and assists clients with securing and enhancing federal tax incentives, as well as the monetization of those benefits through tax equity finance structures.
Julie is an active member of the professional tax community and frequent speaker on partnership tax topics. She serves on the planning committee for the IIT Chicago-Kent Tax Institute and chairs the Special Partnership Issues Subcommittee of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tax Section’s Partnerships & LLC Committee.
Julie earned a BS degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a JD degree with high honors from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
