Clare is a Partner in KPMG’s Deal Advisory and Strategy practice, an environmental scientist with over 20 years of consulting experience in transactions, focusing primarily in evaluating sustainability, environment, health, safety (EHS) aspects of deals. Prior to joining KPMG in February 2023, Clare spent 11 years at Environmental Resources Management (ERM) as a Partner leading sustainability projects across a variety of client sectors and geographies, notably life sciences/pharmaceutical, private equity/finance, power/energy, chemical, manufacturing, aerospace, oil and gas, food/beverage, and infrastructure sectors.

Representative recent engagements include:
- Directed sustainability diligence and compliance projects across varied global geographies and multi-site portfolios for a leading Fortune 100 Life Sciences innovation company, leading international teams, preparing and reviewing technical reports, identifying and communicating sustainability liabilities & value creation opportunities. Recent successes include supporting sustainability diligence during client’s $22 billion acquisition of a life sciences company, followed by multi-year engagement to support post-acquisition sustainability integration.
- Led sustainability diligence for a global private equity client during potential acquisition of a complex high-profile producer of engineering thermoplastics and elastomers. Complex technical issues, including high profile Per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) related risks, as well as other specific sector emerging risks/regulations, were framed into liability costs and business risks/opportunities to inform client’s investment decisions.
- Sustainability diligence for power sector acquisitions/divestitures, including assessment of air emissions, natural resources, water quality, site contamination, wetlands, coal byproduct residual, and cooling water discharges.
- Food and agribusiness sector sustainability advisor, including during a recent high profile acquisition in the bottled spring water segment.
- Developed an sustainability mergers & acquisitions strategy “playbook” with Life Sciences clients through consensus building with key stakeholders, i.e., senior executives, technical experts, regulatory, risk, legal, insurance, and other key stakeholders.
- Sustainability advisor during private equity client investments in a national tire recycling business saving more than 190 million tires per year from the waste stream and recycling approximately three billion pounds of rubber for innovative, sustainable materials, and, additionally, an investment in a national business collecting, transporting, and storing used cooking oil from restaurants. Supported client’s eligibility to secure sustainable financing under the Green Loan Principles during these acquisitions.
