Russell Levitt
Managing Director, State & Local Tax
Russell D. Levitt is a Tax Managing Director, focused on New York tax services, in KPMG's State and Local Tax (SALT) practice located in New York. He specializes in all matters pertaining to New York State and City taxation, including planning, audit representation, and advocacy at the respective New York State and City Divisions of Tax Appeals.
Russell has 28 years of tax experience in both the private and government sectors. He joined KPMG in 1989, and was promoted to the rank of senior manager in 1992, at which time he was charged with the role of KPMG's lead New York Tax specialist. From 1996 until 2002, he was a tax principal in the state and local tax group of another Big 4 firm in New York City. Russell rejoined the KPMG SALT practice in March of 2002. Before initially joining KPMG, he served four years as a senior attorney in the Office of Counsel of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, in Albany.
Russell has lectured before organizations such as the New York Business Council, the Committee of Banking Institutions, the Wall Street Tax Association, the Tax Executives Institute, the Council On State Taxation, the New York CPA Society, the Institute of International Bankers, the New York City Department of Finance Annual TaxRapp, and the FSC/DISC Tax Association. He has published articles in The Journal of Multistate Taxation and Incentives, State Tax Notes and Maxwell MacMillan's State Tax Weekly.
Russell has a BA degree in politics from Brandels University, a JD degree from University of Florida and a LLM degree in taxation from New York University.
