Steve Howard
Managing Director, Business Tax Services
Steve Howard focuses on providing federal income tax return, provision, and planning services with particular emphasis on structuring transactions and restructuring businesses to increase after-tax cash flow. Steve has significant tax experience with regulated utilities; independent and/or renewable power producers; biofuels producers; oil and gas producers and refiners; and energy traders and marketers.
Steve joined the KPMG Business Tax Services practice in November 2021 in the firm's Minneapolis office, following 14 years of public accounting experience at another Big 4 firm. For three years, he also served as the lead editor and update contributor to “Chapter 17 – Accounting for Taxes” of the LexisNexis/Matthew Bender Accounting for Public Utilities treatise.
Steve is a certified public accountant in Minnesota. He has JD and MBT degrees from the University of Minnesota and a BSBA degree from the University of Nebraska. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association, and the Hennepin County Bar Association.
