Brian Goetsch
Managing Director, Accounting Advisory Services
Brian is a leader of KPMG Complex Accounting group within Accounting Advisory Services where he provides technical accounting and advisory services on financial instruments and derivatives, hedge accounting, consolidations and acquisitions, leasing, foreign currency, renewable energy, commodities, and IFRS.
Prior to joining KPMG, Brian was a staff member at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). He served on the Revenue Recognition, Fair Value Measurements (FAS 157), and Variable Interest Entities (FSP FIN 46R-6) projects and answered technical accounting inquiries from constituents on various FASB pronouncements.
Professional and Industry Experience
Brian assists clients in applying accounting guidance to various accounting transactions and the development of accounting policies. He works with KPMG’s vast network or resources to identify interpretive guidance, industry practices, and regulator views in order to identify, research, develop, and document accounting positions and policies.
Brian is the leader of our Derivatives and Hedging Topic Team, providing focused technical analysis for a wide range of financial and commodity derivatives and hedging activities.
Brian has assisted global retailers, manufacturers, public and competitive energy providers, and financial institutions with the development and implementation of hedge programs over foreign currency risks, commodity risk, and interest rate risk. He also works closely with audit clients on a regular basis assisting with the development of hedge programs on a real-time basis to ensure compliance with US GAAP or IFRS.
Brian has assisted multi-national companies with the evaluation of the impact that foreign currencies have on their financial reporting in order to identify and develop appropriate hedge programs.
Brian has assisted multiple companies with the evaluation of readiness to go public, including remediating of accounting issues to become public company-compliant for US GAAP and SEC reporting purposes.
