Emily Gauthier
Managing Director, State and Local Tax
Emily Gauthier specializes in multistate sales and use tax issues, primarily for the power and utility industry. She has sales and use tax experience in various areas of the power and utility industry, including renewable energy and regulated utilities, as well as the retail sectors and trading. Emily has extensive experience in working with all aspects of sales and transaction tax engagements for the KPMG State and Local Tax practice. She performs refund analysis, transactional analysis, audit mitigation, dispute resolution with state and local tax authorities, and other services involving multistate sales and use taxes for local, national, and international KPMG clients.
As an Indirect Tax leader for the KPMG Power & Utility practice, Emily stays current on trends and issues within the industry focusing on the effect they may have on indirect taxes. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, including KPMG Power & Utility Share Forums and STARTUP.
Prior to joining KPMG, Emily worked for a national consulting firm that provided multistate sales and use tax consulting. Her work experience included Louisiana sales and use tax audit defense and reverse audit work for FORTUNE 1000 companies. Additionally, Emily spent three years working for a large law firm in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There, she assisted with trust and estate accountings and tax issues, individual income tax audit defense, and various federal and state tax research projects.
Emily is a certified member of the Institute of Professionals in Taxation (CMI) where she is Chair of Sales Tax School 1. She earned an MBA degree from Southern Louisiana University and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Louisiana State University.
