Alan led KPMG in South Africa’s Tax & Legal practice for over 11 years, and has been Head of Africa for the last 3 years. He recently took on the role as Chairman of the South Africa Tax Practice, with the objective of fulfilling a more strategic and client facing role. Recently Alan assisted with one of the largest multi-national PAN African SSC projects and has extensive experience in group rationalisations and restructures. He has also assisted in developing numerous broad-based black economic empowerment structures and in implementing the associated transactions.
Alan assists in the Practice on numerous technical matters and is known for his problem solving and solution based thinking. He has assisted most recently with the efficient solving of one of the largest multi-national South African based re-financing and restructuring projects that occurred in 2013. Alan has industry knowledge in the Financial Services area and has worked extensively in the telecommunications, short term insurance services industry, banking, and private equity sectors, amongst others.
Alan was the founder, and assisted with the formulation and roll out of KPMG’s international 7 Star Program aimed at delivering outstanding client service. Whilst the Head of Corporate Tax Services at Andersen, Johannesburg, Alan was also responsible for launching and developing that firm’s Value Added Tax practice successfully, before joining KPMG. Alan served for many years on the KPMG EMA Tax Board representing Africa, and remains on the Africa Tax Board.
