John is a managing director in the KPMG State and Local Tax Mergers and Acquisitions (SALT M&A) practice based in New York City. John joined KPMG in May 2017 and has 18 years of state and local tax experience, including 11 years advising private equity and strategic clients on state and local tax matters related to acquisitions and dispositions. John serves as the Business Unit leader for KPMG’s New York Metro SALT M&A Practice.

John has extensive buy-side and sell-side M&A transaction experience advising private equity and strategic clients in a wide range of industries, including consumer and industrial products, financial services, infrastructure, manufacturing, real estate, retail, and technology, media and telecommunications. John also advises on acquisition tax structuring matters, including, but not limited to, acquisition debt placement, legal entity selection, and transfer taxes.

John focuses a portion of his practice on state and local tax matters related to the real estate industry, including state and local tax planning for Real Estate Investment Trusts.

John is a frequent instructor at KPMG Business School events and the KPMG sponsored Private Equity Tax Bootcamp in New York City. John has also participated as a panelist at Tax Executives Institute NY Chapter M&A Conference on Operational issues for State and Local Income, Sales and Real Estate Taxes.
