Managing Director, International Tax, Washington National Tax
John focuses on the taxation and reporting of cross-border transactions. He is a member of KPMG LLP's (KPMG) BEPS resource center and leads the firm's U.S. Country-by-Country Reporting (CbC) Center of Excellence. He coordinates the center's activities globally with professionals in KPMG International firms.
John joined KPMG in San Diego in 2003 after working for another Big Four accounting firm’s international corporate tax practice for four years in the San Francisco and San Diego areas. He joined the KPMG Washington National Tax practice in 2016 after living overseas for several years.
Since joining KPMG, John has managed a broad range of U.S. multinational and foreign-owned clients and has extensive experience with a wide range of complex tax matters relating to his clients’ businesses. He has assisted clients with intellectual property shifting planning and cost sharing arrangements, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and subpart F mitigation planning. John has significant experience managing U.S. foreign international compliance reporting engagements.
John is a frequent presenter at industry forums, and he has also co-authored articles for International Tax Journal and Daily Tax Journal. He was recognized by Bloomberg Tax for outstanding authorship in federal taxation and was awarded the 2018 Contributors of the Year Award in connection with his co-authoring of a four-part article series on the international provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
John holds a JD degree and Master of Law in Taxation from the University of San Diego and a BA degree from University of California, San Diego.
