Phil is an M&A partner and a Senior Lead Tax partner of the KPMG tax practice leading several key accounts providing tax and M&A services. Prior to becoming a Senior Lead Tax Partner of KPMG, Phil was the head of the Transactions and Cross Border Practice, a group of nearly 2000 partners and professionals providing transaction related tax services. He also was the National Leader of the KPMG Mergers & Acquisitions Tax Practice for 5 years, a group of nearly 400 professionals advising on the tax aspects of acquisitions, dispositions, and restructurings. He joined KPMG in February 2002 as a partner in the M&A Tax practice and was named East Region Partner-in-Charge in 2008. Prior to joining KPMG, Phil worked for 14 years providing tax consulting services to both private equity funds and Fortune 500 companies engaged in M&A transactions. Phil continues to advise clients on the tax implications of buyouts, spin-offs, and other transactions.
Phil’s 30-plus years of experience includes structuring complex global transactions, providing U.S. tax advice and assisting with structuring investments around the globe (including India, China, Japan, Australia, Taiwan, and throughout Western Europe). He has also helped clients reduce the tax burden on portfolio companies and other operating businesses.
Phil has spoken at conferences for the Tax Executives Institute, the American Bar Association, and other organizations. He has also authored and contributed to articles for industry publications, including The Deal and Private Equity Analyst. In addition, Phil has hosted the KPMG M&A Outlook Survey Webcast, which highlights the state of the M&A market and the impact of tax planning on M&A transactions.
