James is a partner in KPMG’s Financial Services Alternative Investments practice with over twelve years of experience serving hedge fund and private equity clients. Prior to joining KPMG, James was an accountant in private industry for over six years, with his last private industry position being that of controller / Series 27 finance and operations principal of a securities broker.
Professional and Industry Experience
While at KPMG, James has served the Private Equity and Hedge Fund industries.
- James’ diverse experience includes audits of private equity funds, commodity pools, domestic and offshore fund vehicles, master-feeder funds, multiple-class funds and fund of funds. He has in-depth knowledge of and experience in financial reporting and operational issues specific to the investment company industry and has a strong understanding of complex non-exchange traded products such as private equity investments, convertible securities, sovereign debt, including inflation-linked sovereign debt, other fixed income securities and derivatives (credit default swaps, options, forwards, futures and total return swaps).
- James’ responsibilities include, but are not limited to, serving as the lead engagement partner on multiple private equity and hedge fund clients responsible for the effective planning and execution of audit engagements, including the coordination of specialist resources. James also serves as the concurring review partner on a number of private equity and hedge fund clients.
- James has provided training to all levels of the firm’s audit resources as an instructor and has assisted in the development of various technical training programs.

- ASC 820, Fair Value Measurements and Disclosures
- James serves as the lead partner liaison for recruiting at Baruch College.
