Introduction of digital tax on electronic transactions

The Minister of Finance and Economy Development today presented the budget for 2024-2025. Regarding tax, the budget proposes:

  • Reviewing fiscal laws to consolidate, simplify, and modernize them to deal with the evolving nature of the global business environment
  • Introduction of digital tax on electronic transactions
  • Implementation of electronic invoicing (e-billing) for efficient value added tax (VAT) collection which is scheduled for completion in December 2024
  • Implementation of a “track and trace” solution to mark and track excisable goods by July 2024
  • Enhancement of electronic services platforms to simplify tax compliance and foster a business-friendly environment
