Maximizing Efficiency: The Value of Oracle Database Infrastructure on Microsoft
Until recently, companies that maintained business critical Oracle Databases were prevented from hosting them in their Azure tenant due to product supportability within Microsoft Azure datacenters. That resulted in operational inefficiencies and higher support costs affecting a large number of Oracle customers, which according to Oracle, 97% of Fortune 100 companies rely on Oracle Database for their most critical workloads.1 Since 2019, Oracle has partnered with Microsoft to deliver Oracle Interconnect with Azure, offering secure connections between OCI and Microsoft Azure to bridge the gap of the two platforms.
But the launch of Oracle Database@Azure in September 2023 makes co-location of Oracle Databases in Azure datacenters a reality. With this latest announcement, Microsoft has become Oracle’s largest customer committing to purchase 20 Oracle Cloud Data Centers, including 2,000 Exadata Database Machines, co-located with and connected to Azure to deliver seamless management of Azure and Oracle workloads. Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing platform that offers a full range of cloud services and solutions, including virtual machines and storage to analytics and Automated Intelligence which can be integrated with business-critical Oracle Database workloads.
By using Oracle Database@Azure, businesses can harness the power of both platforms to optimize their workload management, increase efficiency, and decrease costs. One of the main benefits of this approach is the ability to use native Azure services and tools while leveraging Oracle’s enterprise database running on Exadata machines and application deployment capabilities.
There are other benefits of Oracle Database@Azure which include:
