Martin is a tax partner based in KPMG’s Los Angeles office. He has extensive experience providing both tax consulting and compliance services to some of the top real estate companies in Southern California. He has also been a CFO of a public REIT and was the Senior Vice President, Tax for the largest privately held multifaceted real estate company in the United States. He has assisted with the IPO process of two REITs and a publicly traded C corporation that owns real estate. He is currently the National Tax Industry Leader in building, construction, and real estate.
Martin has consulted both on the acquisition and disposition of real estate using the tax rules to help minimize the tax consequences. He ha restructured various business organizations in order to increase the basis of assets to reduce taxable income or increase depreciation deductions, including structuring IRC Section 1031 exchanges and other deferral strategies. Martin’s experience serving both public companies and closely held businesses and their owners in various industries allows him to provide comprehensive, customized, and innovative tax planning for his clients.
