Partner, Mergers & Acquisitions Tax
Mark French leads KPMG LLP’s M&A Tax practice on the U.S. West Coast, and also serves as KPMG’s global lead tax partner on certain client accounts. Mark advises clients on the U.S. federal income tax aspects of domestic and cross-border corporate acquisition and divestiture transactions, including taxable and tax-free acquisitions, structuring for public offerings, leveraged buy-outs, tax-free “spin-offs” or “demergers,” and internal corporate restructurings.
In addition, Mark advises clients on the U.S. federal income tax issues inherent in debt workout and other distressed financial situations, including reorganizations in bankruptcy. He has worked with several multinational clients (both corporate and private equity) in various industries, including software & services; electronics; communications & media; life sciences; energy & chemicals; aerospace & defense; food, retail & distribution; financial services; manufacturing; and healthcare & pharmaceuticals.
Mark has been with KPMG since 1988, and has gained significant experience serving clients in various positions both in the United States and abroad, including partner in charge of KPMG’s U.S. Corporate Tax practice in London, United Kingdom; partner in charge of KPMG’s U.S. M&A Tax practice in the Mid-Atlantic region and nationally; and manager in KPMG’s U.S. Tax practice in Paris, France.
Mark has published tax articles in various U.S. and European tax and financial publications, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He instructs at KPMG U.S. tax courses in the United States and Europe. Mark holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting, magna cum laude, from Harding University.
