Meier Tobler is one of Switzerland’s leading building services companies, employing 1,276 people and generating annual revenue of approximately CHF 500 million. Operating across Retail, Heat Generation, Air Conditioning Systems and Service, the company delivers comprehensive solutions to installation businesses and end customers. It distinguishes itself through close customer engagement via physical shops and multiple e-channels, including smart system monitoring and control, ensuring reliable heating and climate system operations.
The opportunity: A fragmented ERP landscape limiting integration and scalability
Meier Tobler was founded through a merger of two building services companies. Following the merger, Meier Tobler was operating on two separate SAP ERP Central Component (ECC) systems, both heavily customized and dependent on third-party add-ons. This fragmented ERP landscape posed challenges for integration, scalability, and innovation.
KPMG AG in Switzerland (KPMG Switzerland) facilitated and assisted Meier Tobler in their business-driven transformation to consolidate these systems into a single S/4HANA environment. Using the KPMG Powered Enterprise Methodology, the team supported Meier Tobler from process redesign through a nationwide go-live and a two-month hypercare phase.
The transformation was delivered in close collaboration with Meier Tobler´s internal IT and Business Process Improvement teams.
Meier Tobler key challenges that needed to be addressed
- Fragmented ERP systems requiring reintegration
High technical and business complexity due to outdated, highly customized ERP systems
Evolving market demands for new pricing models and service contracts
Need for outside-in perspective to simplify cross-functional processes and adopt industry leading practices
Need for effective risk management in transformation
Our response: A structured transformation powered by collaboration
Transforming complexity into opportunity: Meier Tobler’s SAP S/4HANA Journey
To unify two legacy SAP ECC systems, Meier Tobler and KPMG Switzerland followed a structured, business-led approach. Together, they defined an operating model based on key business scenarios and established a foundation for aligned processes across the merged organization.
The outcome: A scalable ERP foundation supporting aligned operations
The transformation established a stable digital foundation for scalable growth.
By consolidating two highly customized ECC systems into a single SAP S/4HANA platform, Meier Tobler simplified its system landscape and introduced a scalable ERP environment. Harmonized processes supported improvements in operational efficiency and transparency, while tailored applications for pricing and margin control were developed to meet specific business needs. A thoroughly orchestrated cutover began in November 2024, leading to a go-live as planned in January 2025. Thanks to proper planning and close coordination on data migration and validation, workloads remained manageable during the cutover. The eight-week hypercare phase that followed was marked by limited business impact and strong collaboration between KPMG and Meier Tobler teams, helping maintain business operations without major interruptions.
