Rob Tockman
Chief Accountant, Dept. of Professional Practice
Rob Tockman is the Chief Accountant in our Department of Professional Practice. He joined KPMG in 1984 and was elected to the partnership in 1996. During his career he has been resident in our offices in Indianapolis, Indiana; St. Louis, Missouri, Stamford, Connecticut, Chicago, Illinois, and Houston, Texas in addition to three years as a US Partner in Seoul, Korea.
As Chief Accountant, Rob oversees the Accounting Standards Group which monitors emerging issues at the SEC, FASB, IASB and other standard setters, and communicates that information to our engagement teams and other constituents and to enhance audit quality on audits. He also is responsible for technical accounting consultations with our engagement teams on difficult and emerging accounting issues.
Prior to his appointment as Chief Accountant, Rob provided audit services and was responsible for managing KPMG’s global audit efforts for a number of the firm’s largest and most diverse public industrial manufacturing and services clients, addressing and resolving technical accounting questions, and interacting with the companies’ corporate management and audit committees. In addition to recurring audit responsibilities, he has assisted clients with special projects, IPO’s and other SEC registrations, consulted on technical accounting and auditing issues, and assisted in a number of global acquisition and divestiture transactions.
Rob also served as Professional Practice Partner – Audit for the Houston business unit, responsible for a wide array of professional practice and risk management matters for KPMG audit practices in Southeast Texas and Louisiana, including technical accounting and auditing advice and consultation, promoting and overseeing firm-wide audit quality initiatives, client acceptance and continuance, and local office training.
Rob is one of the Firm’s SEC Reviewing Partners. In this capacity, he is responsible for performing the engagement quality control review of audits of client financial statements and reviewing offering documents to be filed with the SEC, and consulting with public company engagement teams on accounting and reporting issues.
