Barbara Novek is Senior Counsel at KPMG Law for KPMG in Canada. Her practice covers diverse areas of personal and corporate taxation, including corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, and divestitures, with a particular focus on business succession, estate planning, and philanthropic giving, including drafting of wills, protection mandates and family trusts.
Barbara regularly counsels and guides families in developing strategies to address disparate family, business and tax concerns, often in a cross-border or international context. She also advises on residency issues and represents clients in commercial transactions as well as in dealings with the tax authorities.
Barbara has been consistently recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada in the practice areas of Tax Law and Trusts and Estates and, in 2015, was named Lawyer of the Year in Trusts and Estates, Montreal, selected by peer recognition. She is the author of numerous articles in the area of taxation and is a regular speaker at tax conferences and seminars.
