Thang is a tax lawyer who specializes in all aspects of tax controversy management. His broad experience with resolving disputes allows him to devise solutions for clients from different angles, with different processes, using different approaches, to best suit their needs.
Thang serves public, private, and non-profit clients, from a wide range of industries, such as retail, finance, insurance, telecommunications, investment, entertainment, sports, real estate, construction, consumer goods, healthcare, pharmaceutical, mining, and education. He helps them overcome problems with income taxes, sales taxes, tax incentive programs, and customs duties. This includes protecting their interests in the course of audits, objections, and appeals; obtaining relief for them through administrative and judicial proceedings; defending their interests against governmental demands and collection efforts; and finding recovery and refund opportunities for them. He has resolved hundreds of matters for clients, with an exceptional track record of getting them favourable results in and out-of-court.
Thang represents clients before the provincial superior courts, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. He serves as an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, providing instruction on tax law, tax administration, and tax advocacy, and speaks on tax topics at national and regional conferences and seminars.
