Steven Raphael is a senior associate lawyer with KPMG Law where his practice encompasses all aspects of indirect tax advisory and taxpayer dispute resolution including matters related to Canada's Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), provincial sales taxes (PST/RST/QST), and other Canadian indirect taxes (e.g., luxury tax, digital services tax, carbon taxes, tobacco taxes, and insurance premium taxes).
In addition to advising clients on complex tax matters, Steven has experience representing clients at the audit and objection stages and in litigation at both the trial and appellate levels. He frequently assists clients with Canadian tax issues by offering comprehensive planning, representation, and litigation solutions to those issues.
A major focus of Steven’s practice involves the taxation of real estate, financial services, digital economy businesses, and the blockchain/cryptoassets (e.g., cryptocurrency, NFTs, decentralized finance, smart contracts, etc.).
