Michael Kavanagh has significant and varied experience involving matters of financial reporting, regulatory compliance and public market offerings, as well as transaction related assistance. Michael is a Securities Review Partner in the GTA. In that role, he assists many public company engagement teams with a variety of different securities related offerings and public company filings. Previous to this role, Michael led KPMG’s Technology practice in the Greater Toronto Area, and has worked with several private equity and asset management firms during his tenure with KPMG.

With over 25 years of client service experience, Michael provides services primarily to public and regulated entities, with an increasing focus on the real estate sector.  He has deep experience leading and contributing to audits of multinational public companies and entities who have prepared for and successfully listed in Canada and completed public offerings in multiple jurisdictions. His experience and knowledge includes audits of internal controls over financial reporting (“ICOFR”) and other controls-based assurance reporting involving foreign and domestic clients of the Firm. Michael is also accredited and trained in US GAAP/GAAS.

His professional background includes working with and leading multi-disciplined teams, including advisory and tax professionals, as well as working relationships various KPMG member firm network. His diverse experience includes leading client engagements in real estate, technology, banking, asset management, public pension funds, private equity, and retail funds sectors. He has been frequently called upon to speak and moderate at various events or roundtables over the years.

  • Michael is a member of the Board of Directors for Youth Employment Services. He is an Audit and Finance Committee member for the Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation. As well, Michael plays an active role as a youth hockey coach with Humber Valley Hockey Association.
