Ajay also leads the Tax - Markets and Strategy role of the India firm. He was responsible for increasing the practice coverage around clients, sectors and corridors and as part of his role has responsibility for working with the leadership in formulating and implementing new strategies for the tax practice. He also conceptualised and established KPMG in India’s CoE, where he led the creation of a 500-seater facility. Ajay has oversight of the Tax Technology and Skill Development agenda for the tax practice in India.
Ajay has spent more than three decades in senior positions in the Direct Tax and Indirect Tax practices of leading professional services firms (Andersen, EY,BMR and KPMG). This has given him a deep insight into tax and business issues faced by large corporates. Ajay has also worked on various projects with the government during the course of his professional career.
Professional and Industry Experience
Prior to joining KPMG in India in 2016, Ajay led the Mumbai indirect tax practice at BMR & Associates (a boutique tax services firm) where Ajay was a co-founding Partner. Ajay is ranked amongst leading indirect tax advisors in ITR's Indirect Tax Leaders Guide.
Areas of Expertise: Ajay has more than 30 years of experience in advising multinational and domestic companies across a range of industries on various issues including direct tax, indirect taxes and allied regulations.
