Melbourne Airport is on a mission to become Australia’s favorite airport destination.

This means investing in an additional runway, new routes, and expanded facilities to accommodate an increased number of travelers. It also means investing in an agile, resilient technology environment that continually evolves to meet changing needs.

To that end, the airport has replaced its legacy systems with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and is working with KPMG Australia’s Managed Services team to transform it into a platform for growth.

Through a multi-year subscription for software-as-a-service (SaaS) optimization, the airport is benefiting from ongoing system enhancements, data integrations, updates, process improvements, configurations, training, and more — all with predictable costs.

      From transactional to transformational

According to KPMG research, long-term value in SaaS optimization increases as services move from IT-centric, ticket-based activities to more business-centric outcomes and ongoing transformation. Melbourne Airport sees that first-hand, as its managed services go far beyond the day-to-day handling of incidents.

To support the airport’s growth strategy, managed services are extending the capabilities of the D365 platform, driving ongoing outcomes such as:

      • Scaled capacity

With help from the managed services team, the platform can flex to handle an increasing volume of work orders, scheduling, vendor management, and other operations, better enabling the airport’s construction projects.

      • Operational resilience

With advanced systems integration and dashboarding, the airport utilizes application data to forecast passenger numbers, allocate gates to airlines, ensure adequate baggage capacity, determine staffing levels, and more — helping the airport provide essential services and prevent downtime.

      • Increased adoption and reduced tech debt

With ongoing enhancements, SaaS optimization makes modules more usable. That means airport staff can obtain the necessary functionality from the platform to advance their growth strategy, rather than pursuing workarounds that create redundant processes or ripple effects.

Thanks to SaaS managed services, Melbourne Airport has a nimble, responsive D365 environment that not only keeps the organization stable but also scales to meet ambitious growth plans, taking the organization to new heights.
